weird file menu issues

Hi,I have been setting up a newer MacPro(2008 2.8 Quad,OSX 10.66)the last month.
This issue is hard to describe ,I apologize if I am using an incorrect term or am not being clear.
A weird issue has surfaced,it usually happens when I have had DP open.
If I go to the menu on top file etc...the highlighted choice, save, copy etc...is jittery and goes down the list very fast.If I try to click on an icon on my desktop each icon gets highlighted in succession(goes down the row of icons)restarting the mac usually clears up the issue for a while,I have also tried changing the resolution of the monitors and updated the latest drivers on 2 different mouses, changed mouse preferences etc....any ideas or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
KG

Strange. If you are so early in setting up I would wipe the drive completely and reinstall the OS. If only DP is affected, delete all remnants and reinstall if you haven't done so already.

At first glance, I would suspect a dirty keyboard.

Also look at your keyboard and mouse preferences and look at Universal Access. There are some interesting settings designed to aid handicapped users that can be really weird if you don't know about them. Sometimes a keystroke combination will activate them unintentionally.

weird huh?thanks for the replies and input......
I don't think it's a bad OS install because the machine is running perfectly otherwise ,no kp's etc.... I think it's a setting or preference I need to change.
will try calling Apple.

if you have another keyboard handy, try swapping it just to see what happens.
