Monitoring Audio

I'm so embarrassed to even be asking this, but since I upgraded to DP 7 I cannot for the life of me monitor an audio channel while I'm recording MIDI onto it.
Here's my routing: MIDI to Kontact 4 via BUS 1-2 (or whichever pair I choose) to Input on Audio. Doesn't matter if I have the Monitor Button on or off or the play button on or off, I'm getting no audio while I'm recording. But it does record (obviously with the record button on)
I've gotta iMac 7 with a MOTU 828.
True that I still have some new layout to get used to, but I'm stumped.
My work around is to record then check the mix, record then check the mix. It's driving me NUTS!
Besides getting up this morning, where did I go wrong?
Thanks,
Leo

I was a little confused by what you were saying at first and I thought it was a problem with MIDI Patch Thru, but since you're bussing the VI to a track for recording, I think you need to set Studio > Audio Patch Thru to Auto.

Thanks, Dan. I'll give that a try. Like I said, I know it's an easy fix.

It's the One Button issue!

We'll that didn't do it. I know it's "A ONE BUTTON SOLUTION", I just wish I knew which one.

According to DP Tech:
"When doing this type of bussing of virtual instruments, monitoring will not take place if you are set to Direct Hardware Playthrough. Change your monitoring setting to monitor through effects (Setup menu> Configure Audio System> Input Monitoring Mode)."
That's the ticket. THANKS!

Ah, that makes sense. Since I don't have a MOTU interface I have to monitor through effects, so I never think of that as an answer.
Thanks for letting us know. Glad you got it working.

Not sure if this is the same issue as me but this setting solved my problem. Just upgraded to Snow Leopard and was having the hardware monitoring setting in MOTU Audio setup jump back to "None" whenever I hit play. This setting has fixed it. Slightly (VERY) apprehensive about upgrading to Lion and Mountain Lion...
