Latency problems even on smallest buffer.

Hi all,
I've just started to come across an odd issue after a few months of problem free usage.
I'm using DP7.22 on my 2010macpro with the Focusrite Saffire Pro26i/o.
I've just gone to record the singer of a band I've been working with for my university course.
When using using mic even on the smallest buffer setting, results in a weird almost double tracked sort of sound. Input monitoring on or off makes no difference. It's not the mic or the interface I don't think as I get latency free audio when using the interface in standalone mode.
My system isn't overloading, I've only got 1 track armed, it's only going out of one output.
I'm completely stumped as to what it could be.
Any ideas?
