Slate virtual console collection (VCC)

Hey, here is a youtube link on an e-mail I got for Slate's Virtual Console collection.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0W32yLwI5o" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't know. I listened to the youtube demo and also downloaded some of the MP3 user demos. I can for sure tell a difference, but it seems as if I can get the same effect with Nomad and Slate's FG-X. Am I wrong?

I don't hear that drastic of a difference to make me want to buy it. Besides they recommend using it on every channel or group it. That sounds like a CPU drain for a little gain.

Maybe my ears are just not hearing it. It did sound a little more fuller and deeper in the low end, but I did not hear much else.

What do you think?

Well, I have Slate's FG-X and that plug-in has lived up to its hype
and then some..it's a great product.

I haven't demoed VCC so I can't say anything for sure about it. I
wouldn't judge anything based solely on a website mp3. I think you'd
have to download the time-limited demo and check it out for yourself.

Especially given the nature of the plug-in, the effect might get lost in the MP3 conversion.

I haven't had a chance to try mine yet, but hope to in a week or so. I've been focused on tracking these past few weeks, not mixing and/or mastering.

Just a note guys.. we just uploaded the 1.1 version into the USERS area.. and this fixes the MAS wrapper issue so now you can use the current version without any problems. Let me know how it does for you!

Hi There

I just updated to VCC 1.1, checked it, works fine..... returned the MAS AudioUnit Support.bundle to the current version, still works fine, and the focus problem has gone away as well. Brilliant!!!!

I checked it with a current project that I have been using with VCC. The only strangeness I encountered was when I switched all my currently grouped tracks (with the Trident setting) to the Neve setting.... some audio vanished, but will have to investigate further...... didn't do any permanent damage.

This is wonderful support, thanks Steven.

Kind regards

Stephen

Just want to add that while I was on the older version MAS AudioUnit Support.bundle I seemed to have a problem with many of my plugins robbing DP of keyboard controls (Spectrasonics, Native Instruments etc...). Now I have returned to the latest version of MAS AudioUnit Support.bundle everything seems to work normally, with the exception of Slate FG-X, which was doing this before.

But, huge progress!

Thanks

Stephen

Me again....

VCC is still robbing DP of keyboard control, I hadn't clicked inside the plugin so I didn't notice.....

but not a biggie..... (it's great having DP Control on the iPad!)

I'm running to keep up with all the plugins, I've invested in so many over the last year, along with the fact that I am beta testing for some companies as well, so it has become part of my daily schedule to try and keep up with all the updates, and check them out if I can, while still putting in a full working day mixing.

Phew!!!!

Another observation:

On projects I already had used VCC, things seem to be normal.

However, with the new version and with the latest MAS AudioUnit Support.bundle, on a new project, opening a fresh instance of VCC, and selecting group, the dreaded white screen happens again.

The difference is that this time DP does not crash, and reopening the plug works.

So, not perfect yet, but a bit better.

Cheers

Stephen

This is what I'm noticing with 1.1, too. When I first switch on Group (or open its panel) I get the blank window. Closing the VCC plug-in window and reopening it will bring back the graphics with the Group and Track List panels open, but when I try to close the Track List panel I lose all the graphics again.

The focus has worked a couple of times, but not for long.

This is with the new wrapper. I submitted a ticket on slatedigital.

With the old wrapper I'm not experiencing any graphic issues but the focus is a no go.

But, oh man, it sure sounds and feels right.

Dan Worley

Seems we still have to fix a few things.. we've just purchased new systems with various hardware and software configs so that it can help us reproduce more system specific bugs. I'm gonna work very hard to kill all last bugs for DP and other workstations this weekend and upcoming week. Thanks for everyone's support and help!

Thanks Steven!

Despite the glitches, VCC is making my mixes sound wonderful! I love the fact that a little noise has been added, just like a real console. My recent adventures mixing 'old school' with Kate Bush have reminded me that analogue and a little noise makes quite a difference.

My favourite is the Trident setting, now I wonder why that might be?? :D

Cheers

Well Steven, if you think the software makes that much difference, I do respect your opinion, and when Steven (Slate) takes care of the bugs i will probably try it out. But does it really make that much difference than say using the Nomad magnetic and FG-X? I don' think my ears are as good as a lot of people in detecting the slight differences or whether it is posible to do the same thing with other software.

BUT, in saying that, I guess I am just playing devils advocate as every other Slate product i have tried is exceptional.

And also the support that Steven offers is very good, he is really pretty easy to get in contact with and does reply very quickly , at least for me he has.

I think the support is exceptional too or has anyone here forgotten how often we DP users are often just blown off by some developers (Waves, NI anyone?)

That Steven himself is posting here speaks volumes and makes me downright happy to have purchased a number of his company's products. :unicorn:

Yeah, +1, James. I'm usually very cautious because I've been burnt so many times in the past. But the Slate Digital team seems dedicated and determined. That's why I decided to buy VCC, even knowing there were problems that needed to be worked out. I have every confidence they will make good. I sure know the sound of this plug has already won me over.

Well I bought it. I am always swayed by the opinions of many on this board. I am glad i got in in time to get the new I-Lock. I will also look forward to Steven getting the problems out of it as I am sure he will.

One thing I was hesitant about was the CPU hit. Are you supposed to put this on every track like the youtube video says or just subgroups and main out?

And no one really said anything about my earlier question. How is it different say from just using Nomad Magnetic and Slate's FG-X to get that analog, compressed sound?

It is not the quality i am worried about. I have Trigger, SSD and FG-X and all are top notch products. I just did not want to be redundant in my plugins. If I can get the same sound using something I already have, I want to do it. You know what I mean..
