how to use simultaneously 828mkIII and Mac built-in audio?

Hi all,
i would to use both main out 1-2 ( of 828mk3) and mac built in microphone. I need it because i would want to record in Cubase 5.2.2 from that microphone ...to have some "native" lo-fi records about human voice. That even because for now i haven't a xlr microphone to connect on 828mk3. Anyway.. seems there are some problems about the motu driver routing. in fact in the audio/MIDI setup of mac osx on motu otuput i read always "analog" but ideed i'm using main out-1-2. If i create an aggregate device on audio/MIDI setup and i choose the built in microphone as input and the motu main out 1-2 as output..when i confirm it and close window the audio /MIDI setup crashes and then in cubase (chosing aggregate device ) i have all bus-name wrong (about motu output), in fact i can listen sound only if i put analog 9 and phone 10 as output  .
The os x audio/MIDI setup don't crashes only if i set "analog" as output...but in cubase still remain all bus name wrong and i have no sound.
Can someone give me a suggestion? I know the motu driver on os x do it about output name...but in this case it's completely crazy :banghead:
Thanks in advance.

p.s.

motu driver is updated
firmware is updated,
when i was on windows ..this situation did not exist and on control panel was easy to use two audio cards simultaneously! :?

With the MOTU driver, the setting in Audio/MIDI setup doesn't really matter. So when it sticks on analog, that's OK. The default output pair is selected in the MOTU Audio Setup App. That could be one of the problems. Check your configuration there and see if that helps. Also, I never really liked the I/O naming in an aggregate device - it might take some trial and error to figure out which output pair is which.

thanks for your answer!
Yes, in Motu audio setup i have always default output on Main Out 1-2 ( cubase need main out instead analog 9*10 as on Logic), also headphones following Main Out 1-2 in Motu audio setup and.... all others i/o are disabled to preserve cpu! Then...you confirm me in the aggregate i/o there are these problems about i/o names? So ..i can't solve it?

I would not disable anything to conserve on CPU - not entirely sure of what you've done. What I was saying about the aggregate naming is that they're all there, maybe just not in the order you expect, therefore the experimenting. You should be able to get it to work.

Ok, thanks again! Yes this is true,i can confirm, if in cubase there are disabled all input i don't like to use..the cpu will stay more relaxed :) .
About aggregate i/o ,as i told, it work but only using unappropriate name about output (analog 9-phones 10) it's strange but it work . Well..if i'm sure i will not make demages on motu, i will leave so. :-|

This is a shameless promotion, but you might want to consider DP. The MAS audio engine allows you to select multiple interfaces like you say you can in Cubase on a PC. No need to use aggregates. It's also very tightly integrated with the MOTU interfaces and offers a near zero latency through hardware monitoring option. Plus a lot of other features that you'll see if you visit this board often. Check it out if you get the chance.

Oh!!!!! This is cool but..i use cubase from over than 11 years...and now to switch software it's hard. Yet tried on Logic...i have found logic very very ABSURD and not easy than Cubase! :D
However i'll try a demo of DP..to better understand if i can consider it!
Thank you

I think you'll like DP but there's no demo of the program. You may have a friend that'll let you try it out on his computer. There is a crossgrade deal for users of others daws so you'll get a price break that way.

Yes... But there's also AudioDesk that came with your 828mk3. That is a DP Lite (without MIDI and much else), it also is way behind the development of DP, but it gives you an idea how the audio part of DP is. And if you register your copy of AudioDesk with MOTU you can the upgrade to a full version of DP for $395...
I switched from Cubase (vSomething) to DP2.72 back in the days ;-)
