828 mkIII not detected

Post by ionoarmandino »

I have 3 machines. 2 apple macbook pros both running snow leopard, one with 4gb of ram and the other with 2gb of ram. Both Mac book Pros are 2.5ghz Intel Core 2 Duos. The third machine is a windows desktop machine running 64bit windows 7, 12gb of Ram, gigabyte xtreme 58 motherboard, i7 processor. Just recently my MOTU 828 MK3 hasn't been detected by any of my machines. The most recent driver has been installed on all machines but I don't get any response once the device is plugged in via FIREWIRE. I also have a Presonus Firepod which is detectable by all machines and I am able to use this device with full functionality. This steers me away from thinking that my issue could be a FIREWIRE port issue with my machines. The 828 MK3's audio input and output work just fine. I can pass audio in and out of the 828 MK3 with no issues. The major issue, the only issue, is that my machines are not detecting the device. After installing the driver software successfully, I have tried to run the firmware update with the device to see if I can get a detection response. I have no luck.

Is there any suggestions? Anyone having the same issue? I would like to get back to using this quality interface.

Thank you,

Sounds like a nice setup that you have. The fact that your 828 MKIII doesn't get detected when connected to any of your computers by firewire leads me to suspect that the firewire port on your interface is fried. How can that happen? By accidentally reversing ("upside down") the firewire cable on your interface when plugging it in. It is easier to do then you think (speaking from personal experience here) and it will fry your firewire port. Please visually inspect the firewire port on your 828 and see if they are "bulging" a little. If so, this is a sign that you plugged it in wrong. If so, you can send it to MOTU for repair. Good luck. :D
