How to synchronize a video that doesn't start at 0000 ?

I'm in a very typical situation for film production. It's probably very simple, but somehow I don't get it...

I have this video (24fps). It starts with a color display, then there's a countdown. And then at what would be (according to DP) 00 00 46 01, the burned in timecode appears in the video and shows 01 00 00 00. The movie starts.

So ok right, I set my chunk start time to 00 00 46 01. So that it starts right at the beginning of the movie. But DP displays 00 00 46 01. And the film displays 01 00 00 00. Is there anyway to offset the timecode displayed by DP ?

Or maybe I'm doing it wrong...

Thank you

You need to use REAL TIME (not FRAMES) in the display choice for one of the tie displays. Since the movie starts at 0:00:00.0 it should match up if the frame rates match. Of course, you need to have FRAMES in the display to set the chunk start time to match the film start. After that, just change the display to REAL TIME and (if appropriate and desired) the other time display to MEASURES (assuming you want to keep track of those as well.)

The problem will be when the chunk doesn't start at 0:00:00.0 on the visual code and you want DP to match the actual time on the visual code. I don't think there is a way to do that, but in your case the fix (as above) should work.

Thank you very much !

But I did find another solution :) I selected the section of the video where the burned in timecode appears and bounced it with quicktime. It gave me a .mov that starts at 01 00 00 00 (without the useless color display and countdown). I can now use this video in my project and have the FRAME display in DP that matches the film.

Another solution would be to simply edit the movie in QuickTime, select the "region" needed (01:00:00:00 to the end), save with dependencies and voila...
