spdif input displaying signal

Why does the spdif input allways display an incoming signal despite anything being connected?

Nobody is getting erratic spdif in readings? Everytime I boot up the ultralite mk3 I get a different reading from my spdif in signal. Heck, the right & left channels don't even match. Sometimes, there is no reading, which of course is what I would expect if I weren't sending a signal to the spdif input.
