Does Panning to Isolate Vocs Effect Sound if Going Mono

Hi everybody!
Adding a voice my my setup and I'm looking for some forum advice.

I'm going to be running 2 mics into a small mixer and was planning on panning the vocals L and R to separate them. This would allow me to adjust volumes on the main mixer independently (1 in each channel) and also to do so in my recording software.

Does doing this take away from the quality of what it would sound like having the voice out and in via stereo?

Panned mono and stereo are not the same thing.

I could write a page or two on the differences but the best way is to do an actual stereo recording and compare the two.
