Hi all,
I inadvertently updated the ios on my G5 PPC mac last week so now I can't sync my ipod touch upgrade apps etc......this is not a major catrastrophe but it is annoying me.
I have been reluctant to upgrade to Leopard and have been using 10.4.11.....until now
From my understanding it is hard to go back to a earlier version of ios,
now I must decide whether I want to upgrade my OS to Leo(on a PPC) or stay in Tiger and not be able to sync or update my ipod.
any PPC users who want to advise me if they were happy or not upgrading to Leopard on a PPC?
I guess I should do a clone of the boot drive in case I have problems(I have SuperDuper)
If I have to restore the drive back to Tiger from a clone to the original drive I am assuming I should not have to reauth apps?is that correct?

I run everything on my Quad G5 under Leopard EXCEPT DP. I have a separate startup partition with 10.4.11 for DP, currently 7.21. It works great, so I have been reluctant to move to Leo for DP.

You could either set up a separate startup partition and install Leopard, like me, or just go for it and update your existing startup drive. Many have reported DP works great under Leo on their G5s, so don't let an old codger like me worry you.

I have always thought you need to set up partitions when you set up a drive,are you saying I could still add a partition to my drive now, easily?

I think you need something like Diskwarrier to partition after the fact. Easy? No idea! I did it in advance.

I never thought Leopard was useful on a PPC, ever. Tiger was the
last OS optimized for PPC. I had 10.4.11 on my G5 up to the day I sold
it and got my Mac Pro.

I agree and that's my dilemma,I have never intended to go past Tiger on my G5 and if there is a way to go back on the ios (I accidentally updated) I would not consider upgrading the G5 to Leo..........but I seem to remember quite a few G5 users who like Leopard....decisions,decisions.

I concur. If you decide to add a partition for 10.5 so that you can sync your device, make that partition small-ish. Also, there may be other apps you might want to use that are "10.5.8 or higher only".

I have an old, CPU upgraded G4 that I ran Leopard on for a while, just for network learning. But back on 10.4.11 it seems like it's blazing fast.

Guess I am alone is saying that I've been in Leo 10.5.8 and not really had any (let me repeat that) ANY major problems with the OS. Dual 2.0 G5 with 4GB RAM and dual digital monitors.

I had no real problems running DP (6 and 7) with the various incarnations of Leopard all the way up to 10.5.8. This was on a 1st gen Dual 2 GHz G5 with 3.5 GB of RAM. I'd say go for it! I liked Leo better than Tiger.

You are not alone. The thought of running any app where I lose money if I lose data on anything without Time Machine ... well, that's back to the stone age as far as I am concerned. I still take care of 'puters that cannot run 10.5 and am glad that I will never have to use one again.

Definitely in that camp.

Snow Leopard brought some improvements as far as scanning and printing are concerned but nothing else of value to me - except that it runs on my new iMac.

Dual G5 with 10.5.8 here. No problems. Like it better than 10.4, which I have on a separate drive.

Hey bud. Where you been hiding?

Ran DP 7.22 on my G5 Quad running 10.5.8. No problems. The 'spaces' function in Leopard was worth it.
