Fix Quantization Overlap

Is there a way to fix the following error?

Sometimes when I quantize a MIDI track and there are two notes back to pack on the same pitch, the release of the first note will overlap the attack of the second note. This is usually only by a few ticks and the when the first note releases, it clips off the second note.

I don't necessarily what to quantize all durations. What I would like is something like the MIDI plugin that removes duplicate notes. Only in this case, I would like a plugin to remove overlap of notes.

I've played with extend releases and move releases, but that does not always have the desired effect. It may fix the above issue, but may create other problems.

Has anyone else had this situation? Is there a way to do this that I'm missing?

Thanks.

I don't quantize - ever - but I do change durations of section of MIDI a lot to fine tune scenes and I get the same thing. So what's a boy (or gal) to do?

I select the area in question, drag it to a new or similar track and do the dirty work there, in isolation from the original. Assign it to a different MIDI channel and then fine tune your overlaps.

Not perfect, but fast and effective. Key commands help speed up stuff like this a lot.

Select the problematic notes, then go to "Change Duration" and
select "Move Releases to the Closest Attack". Following that,
select Change Duration again and select "Subtract" and subtract
anywhere from 15-25 ticks from these notes. Subtract less if you
want them connected (legato).

Check the Change Durations and see if it still has the option to move releases to nearest attack. Without opening DP I don't remember whether that works both ways (forward and backward) but I've used it a lot for similar things. Just check and see. It may not work the way I want to remember it; it may never have worked that way, but it sure seems familiar. Worth a look.
