2009 Nehalem Mac Pro choice : Quad core or 8 core?

Post by kgdrum »

I am thinking about taking the plunge and upgrading to a 2009 Nehalem Mac Pro as they are now being discounted.
My question, using DP and various VI's what would be the better choice the Quad core 2.66 or 8 core 2.26 ?

MB871LL/A 4 core

MB535LL/A 8 core

Assuming I load up my choice with a good amount of Ram.
Which is more important for DAW work, the number of cores or the processor speed?
thanks
KG
