828 mk2 CueMix possibilities
Hi,
I just got me a used 828mk2. I plan to "abuse" it for a specific use, having In-Ear Mixes on Stage. Recording will only be occasionally done with it.
We have 5 members in the Band, and as much as possible should have their own mix done in CueMix. Since the 828 can only have 4 mixes, I'm planning to have three dedicated stereo mixes for the Drummer/Singer/Bass, and the 2 Guitarplayers will share one mix, where it's still possible to change the amount of each guitar in the mix via pan.
I have a laptop with Acid running a track with loops and Click for the drummer in our current setup, both running through a Headphone amp, thats Main-Out also goes to the PA (having only the loops of course). This is done with a USB 6 channel device.
Now, I'd also need that loops and click in the Motu for everyone, but the loops also have to go out to the PA again. Adding the click to every mix seems easy, since there are enough ins left. However, when I route the loops into the motu, can I have them on some Outputs also, without anything else? Since the 4 mixes are already used up for the monitoring, I have no more mix available for that task.
First thing that comes to my mind, I could route one channel of the loops to the Motu, and the other one to the PA, but obviously that wouldn't be optimum, because it would only be Mono then.
Is there any way to "clone" a Input signal to an Output, without using a Mix?
any other ideas on this?
Lars

Re: 828 mk2 CueMix possibilities
could you use the Main Outs of the 828 for the fifth mix?
Just a thought.

No - there's no way to bypass CueMix when using it as a hardware mixer. But anyway, just a thought here - bare with me.
Have you tried selecting the 828mkII as your audio interface for Acid and routing the output of Acid to it. I'm not familiar with Acid, but in DP you can route the signal to any output(s). So, you could route the clicks and loops to the board via the mains(or whatever other pair you have free) and also to the individual mixes as well. In Acid, you could use sends to outputs or auxes (if you're allowed four sends). That way you'd have all the live players on CueMix and the click/loops over firewire. Looks great on paper . . .

Re: 828 mk2 CueMix possibilities
hm, probably I could send the loops and the click to the individual mixes, will have to try that... but how do I get the loops alone to the FOH? All outs are used by mixes, and I can't use the old USB device at the same time as the Motu (the old ASIO problem)
Re: 828 mk2 CueMix possibilities
If you are using analog outputs 1-8 for the monitor mixes, also set the output of the loops to the Main Outs of the 828mkII and run the Main Outs to the mixer. In Acid you could set the output of the loops track to Main 1/2 and use sends to route to the other output pairs monitor mixes - Analog 1/2, etc. Send to auxes with analog pairs as outputs would put each level on a fader with meter. Making any sense?

Re: 828 mk2 CueMix possibilities
yup, makes sense... I forgot that the main out is separate from 1-8. Guess I should wait until I hold it in my hands, before asking eager questions

Re: 828 mk2 CueMix possibilities
now look at this... two years later, and I'm still on the same problem
Meanwhile we use Reaper for the backings, but that doesn't make a difference. I now have the 828mk2, and since I wasn't able to get 5 different mixes (for five musicians), and somewhere I read that I can have 8 mix busses with the 828mk3, I also have an mk3
Guess what, the problem still persists. It mainly seems to be a problem that I can only take output pairs as mix destinations within Cuemix. Main output is purely for FOH, so I can't use it for monitor mixes, which leaves me with 4 pairs (1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8) where I need 5.
Any ideas maybe someone? Or would I really need to get an adat interface, to adress more separate outputs? I could also use the mk2 AND the mk3, but I get a weird feeling that this would be total abuse of my hardware
