DP7 and VE Pro Server and STUCK NOTES

I have been using DP with VE Pro Server running on a Slave Mac for quite a while.

Worked well.

But lately I am getting lots of stuck notes. I use two similar setups in different locations. Basically the same. Two Macs in each location. Same software and VE Pro plug-ins. Slightly different network. Different audio interfaces.

But stuck notes in both places. That is why I think it is DP.

I don't recall the problem with DP6.

Any ideas?
Also the stuck notes are not necessarily notes that have been played by the sequence. They could be any note for some reason is stuck. It is not that a note is played and then it does not get the MIDI off command. It seems it could be any note.

What machines and VIs are in use-- and in what quantity? How much RAM and how much (and what) is/are streaming from each hard drive?

Machines - all Mac Pro 8 core machines. OSX SNow Leopard.
VIs are all Vienna Instruments for this project. All running in VE Pro Server on the slave machine.
Quantity - well not that many. It is not an orchestral project. Small ensemble of about 11-15 instruments. I have 3-4 VE instances running in the VE Server
All instruments stream from an external hard drive connected to the slave Mac Pro with firewire

This is serious. All are Vienna Instruments? Yikes. Just for the record, I've never had stuck notes with VSL and VEP. Perhaps that can be a beacon of hope.

"An external drive"--- I'd say it's firewire for a start. Have you tried moving the samples to SATA?

I have not tried SATA. I could try connecting the external drive SATA. I could also put in another internal drive and copy the Vienna Library to an internal SATA drive. Can't do it now. But could try it.

Any other thoughts?

I would think that the *internal SATA* would be the best option. I have this configuration and it works amazingly well.

I think the SATA is a good idea. I will try it soon.
I am also thinking about Auto Delay Compensation. Stuck notes seem like the kind of problem that something here could be confusing things.

The newest version of VE Pro fixes a lot of problems, be sure to get it. And (very important) be sure to have the exact same versions on the master and slave.

I turned Delay Compensation and the Buffer and Pre-fill Buffers OFF and the stuck notes seem to have gone.

Setup/Configure Audio System/Configure Studio Settings

So far it is not effecting my work but I am using just one slave machine and Vienna Instruments in VE Pro only. More various instrument plug-ins might be a problem.

Bit unusual. I might have some other problem existent somewhere. But for now I have not had one stuck note since turing these settings off.

And I was getting stuck notes in two different setups in different locations. Maybe it is some kind of plug-in I have installed that is not workinig well with Delay Compensation.

Have to track it down.

Hey DeanPk: I've been using VE Pro server with DP also, and it's been fairly stable. I recently starting getting garbled notes when I unclicked the record button next to a MIDI channel. (Go figure.) That cleared up for me when I went into the Preferences window, clicked on the Audio Plug-ings option and set the pull down menus to "All Plug-ins in Real-time." Might help with your stuck notes.

Thanks for the tip. I will try it and make a note of it.

This isn't really a fix, but I found that the best way to get stuck notes in VE Pro to stop sounding is to click the VE Pro audio engine off then on again (the on/off button icon in the upper left corner of the VE Pro interface). Works quickly and well.
