MOTU 828 mk I in Tiger - footswitch not working!

Post by Kazrog »

Anyone else out there have this problem? Ever since Tiger, running DP 4.52 and the latest Firewire drivers...

My footswitch input no longer works. I have pedal down set to spacebar so I can start/stop DP during my live shows. I have tried two different pedals and different cables, etc. to troubleshoot, switched polarity, etc., and nothing is working.

I am going to see if my 828 mk II has the same problem as the mk I, but I'd assume this is a bug in the 828 driver under Tiger.

PS - the computer in question is a 12" PowerBook G4, 1.25 GHz, 768 megs RAM, 80 gig hard drive. All latest software updates under Tiger as of 24 hours ago.

Apparently nobody else has noticed this - including MOTU. They have forwarded my story on to the programming team. Looks like we have a bug!

I've had the same problem too with my 896HD. I think it was the firewire driver update that did it in. Worked fine with 4.52 in Panther. Updated to Tiger (and the appropriate FW drivers) and the footswitch doesn't work anymore.

I had assumed that there was some setting I had to do to fix it but was to lazy to figure it out at the time but if others are having the same experience...

Same problem here.

Any news from the programming team?

Cheers.

Won't work for me either. Anyone found a workaround or a fix? Is it really a bug?

Great now you guys are scaring me..
I just remembered my 828MKII has a footswitch input and were going to use that for a show next week to start/stop our live Logic file we use for backing..

Will have to test mine tonight when I get home and see whats up now!

Hey Backmask.. Nice to see some locals around here hehe..

The guy at tech support said that the problem was being addressed in the next update. He was not able to give me an ETA.

Sweet I forgot about this thread...
After posting, I went home and tried to set mine up with my 828MKII, set the switch to Spacebar, etc..

Nada.. Was using a Morley channel switching pedal I used to use on my Fender amp, so maybe it was the footswitch but it works fine with my Alesis SR16 so safe to say yep, its broken under Tiger hehe.

Hope that update comes out soon!

I'm still having this problem. I haven't found a workaround, I've tried two foot switches. In fact, I can't even get a MIDI note to do the spacebar start/stop toggle!!!

MOTU never wrote me back either... so I'm hoping a Frontier Design Tranzport solves the problem.

Mothra - are you Mikey? What's up man!

There is a new F/W driver update at motu.com. That one solved my problem with my 828mkii footswitch.

Yeah the latest update fixed it..
I forgot to try it up until last week and now weve been using a my footswitch to start and stop tracks in Logic with no problems hehe.
Hell it even works better than using it on my SR-16!

Kazrog nope not Mikey.. Doubt Ive ever met anyone from the band actually.. You may know friends of mine though from either Uphill Battle, Thornlord or maybe Cystrot (remember them)..
Just recognized the name as being one of the only other metal bands anywhere near SB and Ventura hah..
