i-Phone OS 4 problems

I updated my i-Phone 3G to OS 4.x last week, and now I am experiencing
loss of web services (email, weather update, Safari) every two days.
The phone loses web connectivity completely, and I have to power it down
and reboot. Then I have web services for another couple of days, and then
I lose them again.

Anyone else experience trouble like this? Would it be a firmware problem?
The Genius Bar folks at the Apple Store are clueless about it.

David:

Maybe Google "iPhone 3G iOS4 problems" and see what that brings up...

(or "loses internet" or something akin)

I know that when I upgraded my 3GS to iOS 4.whatever it also did a firmware update.

Hope that helps...

iPhone 3GS upgrade to OS4, has turned in a nightmare here. Many phone call interruptions after 2 minutes talking.
No downgrade to OS3 allowed.

Sending the device to Apple did not solved the case. And there was only 10 days warranty left!
A second return to service led to a new free 3GS. All is fine now with this new device.

I've been told that this problem arises with SOME 3GS, others will just run fine. It's a deep and well-known bug.

Well, knock on wood, we seem to be OK so far...(2 very recent 3Gs iPhones)

I don't think the 3G has enough RAM to run ios4 properly. They doubled the RAM with the 3GS.

My advice would be to downgrade to 3.13 (Google for a how-to).

According to Apple, downgrading to OS3 is a unauthorized process. AFAICT, it has to do with better hacking protection in OS4.
I was talking about nightmare, but I've been there.

Quick thought...

Is Radio Shack still offering their trade-ins?

I was at the end of my AT&T contract and traded in my 3G for a new 3GS for a total cost of about $30. (I decided against the iPhone 4 for now...I think I could have got it though for around $130.00.)

If you're upgrade eligible might be worth a look-see.

Have to tried hard reset? Hold the power button and the home button until it restarts to the Apple icon. Try a restore? I never have any issues with mine and it's JB.

I hope you'll get this sorted out, David.

But I can tell I've been thru ALL of Apple support advises, such as reboot, restore as new and physically send it back to Apple support twice.
I was beginning to lose my nerves, which I quite never do. Then they sent me a new device!

Yes, I've done the restore thing, hard reboot, and reset network settings.

So far, this past 5 days it's been okay.

I do wish Apple would just come out and say that OS4 is not officially
supported on iPhone 3G's. This reminds me of the disaster I experienced
with updating my G4 PowerBook to Leopard.

I do feel your pain David, for I've been there.
But keep in mind some 3GS users DO NOT experiment this weird behavior.
Crossing fingers now, though.

David...you are talking about a 3G, right?

It's a different animal than the 3GS, Daniel.

The 3G has 128MB of RAM and the 3GS has 256MB of RAM.

My 3GS gets WAY below 128MB of free RAM when I'm switching between apps (most of which "multitask" by default in ios4). You can imagine what happens on a 3G. I don't know if this could be causing your problems, but it causes problems.

One option would be to jailbreak the phone, add the multitask "toggle" and set it to "off". I don't have experience working with a 3G and ios4 as I advise folks not to do that.

You nailed it Johnny! AFAICT, my concern was a 3GS specific problem.
