Do you mean OS 10.6.5 or are you using a beta version?

I'm assuming he meant 10.6.5 and I corrected his topic header.

Just a word of warning, apparently the 10.6.5 update causes problems with some usb devices. I use the ENTTEC DMXIS to control my lighting and they said not to update yet. Not sure if anyone has run into this, but I know I can't update until this is fixed.

I installed this about a week ago and everything went bonkers, particularly in Safari and Mail. Parts of windows wouldn't scroll, they overlapped the parts that did scroll, and side bars started appearing on top of the main windows.

After about a day of this frustration, I used Time Machine to restore the computer back before I downloaded the errant update and everything's been great since.

Installed it with the Combo installer on the day it came out. Since then I've cloned my startup drive to a disk with nearly 10 times the capacity of the one that came with my Mac Pro back in 2007, and I've not had a problem of any sort.

Though it may be superstition, I repair permissions and repair the drive (if needed) before and after installing OS updates. Seems a reasonable thing to do.

Smooth sailing here. The ol' YMMV rule is at work yet again.

Some things seemed to be a little hosed for me in terms of dependancies between Kontakt and some of it's library in some songs in Ableton Live, but nothing major. Akoustik Piano sound I had in a song in Live got lost, had to tell Kontakt where to find it. This was after the instal so I'm suspicious. I did have something like 35% directory fragmentation according to DiscWarrior though, and had repaired the directory etc. after installing the update.

Nothing to cry about, just more than I'd had out of order in an update in a long time, though so far nothing actually buggy in the OS, early Tiger style.

YMMV is a joke that comes from the legalese of car commercials - "your mileage may vary". As in, you may not get the same gazillion miles to the gallon that the commercial claims, because while the manufacturer got that mileage rating once, on a race track under perfect conditions with the wind in the back of the vehicle and the car driven by a 90 pound test driver with nothing else in the vehicle, you're unlikely to get it because you actually drive your car in the real world, with aging tires on bad roads in poor weather and dense traffic with actual passengers and occasionally luggage. And you weigh a LOT more than 90 pounds.

In online forums it became shorthand for "works for me, may not work for you, because who knows what OS version/particular hardware mix/temperamental peripheral/volatile extension/ancient plug-in/directory problem/app version conflict/corrupt software/hidden hardware issue you have that I don't have and that will mess up the experience for you, while everything works smoothly for moi."

That's good to know, because I was thinking something along the lines of:
"Yes, make mine vodka."
"You might meet Vera."
"Yikes! My mare vaulted."
or the ever popular
"Yummy microwave meatloaf variations"
