linking clips

Hi,

Is it possible in DP7 to link two or more clips on different tracks so that they behave in the same manner? Like in FCP where you can link two clips in a "stereo" clip; if you, for example, trim or move one of the clip the second one will be modified accordingly.
I know that if you select the two clips and modify one the other one will follow (duh!), but if I have two regions that I want linked permanently, it would speed things up a little!
Is there a way?

I suppose you mean you want to link Soundbites.
Try grouping their tracks. Or use the t or w tricks.

Also, there's an option in the SE that will let you sort of "link" option-dragged soundbites, so if you edge edit one, the copy will reflect it as well.

Check the manual for details.

yeah, I meant "soundbites"!
the t and w tricks are only "tracks grouping options". It's gonna work if I move a fader but not if I move the soundbite, the other one won't follow except if they are both selected. But I guess there isn't really a way.

Nope. They don't have to be selected. It works as I described. Make sure the proper option is checked in the mini-menu.

...I think I forgot to enable tracks grouping, that's why it didn't work when I tried last night. I'll try again.

Thanks!

I'm trying to tell you this has nothing to do with grouping tracks. Grouping is just one way of doing it, but the other thing I suggested is more like what you said you want (or what I understood you want).

You want certain SBs to be modified automatically by doing the changes to only one of them, and have the rest follow. Look up EDGE EDITING in the manual. This will work for soundbites that were copied or option-dragged. You edge edit one, and the copies (or clones) will also be edge edited. I think it even works for fades.

With DP you have the option of allowing that, or NOT allowing that. It all depends on that little checkmark in the SE mini-menu.

Also, another method that will work with ANY selected SBs is to... well, select the SBs and edge edit them. But I thought you wanted this to happen only to the original and copies of the original SB without looking for them or without having to select them first.

As usual, there are many different ways you can accomplish the same thing in DP. One just has to become familiar with them all to choose the one that fits our workflow better.
