Folks,
I'm pondering replacing my Event ASP 8's with a set of the Focal 65's... I'm using a KRK RP10 sub too....
I get pretty darn good mixes, using ARC. I was just wondering what you guys (and gals) thought of this....
Thoughts?

Remember that the room is as important as the monitors. I don't just mean treating the room, but matching the monitors to the room.
I tried the Adam's a few years back, all set to buy them until I heard them. It may have been the room, but they sounded harsh and also boxy in the mid-lows. I suspect they needed a tuning of some sort, as they also sounded phasey, even if we adjusted their placement.
Where are you located? Have you checked to see if anyone has what you want, to try out? I thought no one here carried Focal, but it turns out there's a specialty store in SF's SOMA district that has them plus the Klein & Hummel's that are currently top-of-my-list. I plan to go once the opera season begins as it's near the opera house.
Unless you exclusively do pop, rock, electronic music, etc., it is generally best to bring some acoustic recordings with you to find out each speaker's balance. I especially recommend solo piano works, jazz trios with upright bass, and unaccompanied cello works. Maybe something symphonic as well. Voice is too hard to judge, but it doesn't hurt to bring a large variety. I am able to make very quick decisions this way, with full confidence (and have never had regrets).
The KRK RP10 is a horrible sub, but the most affordable one out there that is of decent quality. I know that sounds contradictory, but my point is that it SOUNDS horrible but is decent quality because it serves extremely well as a cross-over to help tame the lows on the RP6's (or other main monitors) and thus make them more efficient at the mids and highs. I would NEVER use it to BOOST lows though!
Unfortunately, really good subs are WAY pricier than really good mains. And this is another reason it's so important to match the monitors (especially size) to your room, because otherwise you could end up spending just as much for a pair of mains and a sub as you would have for the "right" pair of mains with no sub.
