MIDI Control of Traveler mk3?

Can the MOTU Traveler mk3 be controlled in any way using it's MIDI input?

I see CueMix FX has support for certain Mackie control surfaces but can the Traveler react to direct MIDI input? I have tried to send various MIDI CC values and I can see the MIDI input light flashing but I cannot get it to react in any way (such as changing the master volume).

If the answer is "no", is there a way to configure CueMix FX to accept MIDI commands from devices other than Mackie such as by simply changing the name of the manufacturer in the OSX MIDI Studio dialog?

Well I played around a lot with this using MIDI Monitor and MidiPipe and I have confirmed pretty much what 1nput0utput says which is that the MOTU Traveler mk3 does not respond at all to direct MIDI input. The MIDI I/O ports on the MOTU are simply a FireWire MIDI interface for the computer.

To test this I actually setup a Zoom R16 as a Mackie Control for CueMix FX (just plug in the R16 using the USB cable, follow the instructions on page 32 in R16AudioManual_E1.pdf from the R16 CD, and then select the R16 from CueMix's Control Surfaces > CueMix Control Surfaces > Configure ... menu). Everything below the level meters on the Zoom R16 sends MIDI events but I could only get the faders and solo buttons on the Mix panel of CueMix to respond. The jog wheel and function keys send events but they don't appear to do anything in CueMix.

Then I disabled CueMix Control Surface control and instead used MidiPipe to redirect the same Mackie Control events through a USB MIDI interface into the MIDI input on the side of the Traveler and verified that the MIDI IN light blinked as I moved faders on the R16. It had no effect. So the Traveler really does completely ignore all MIDI events. It's just a MIDI interface (albeit I suppose a fast one over FireWire).

I suppose I shouldn't be shocked by this. The Traveler has so many things that might be controlled using MIDI I guess MOTU didn't even know where to begin.

Anyway, I'm just posting this for posterity. Have a nice day.
