828 mk3 Problems - Sonar/Ableton/iTunes/Vista 32 bit

Post by sir88keys »

Hello,
I was an owner of an 828 mkII. The machine literally blew up and I replaced it with an 828 mk3. Prior I was running Sonar 6, Ableton 7, along with other audio apps like Window Media and iTunes. I also had a Line 6 TonePort plugged in as another interface for my guitars (so I can access the effects from Gear Box). Everything was working great together. Now with the mk3, nothing is working well together or consistently.

Latency in Sonar is horrible. It doesn't work if I have it set to MME, ASIO works but then my TonePort isn't recognized, etc. I was able to record still but all of the sudden I'm now experiencing drop outs!?!? IN Ableton I got it to work out of the headphones but not the mains and it doesn't recognize audio or MIDI. It's hit or miss whether the actual OS even recognizes the hardware. Sometimes basic start up shut down noises work, sometimes they don't? Same applies to WMP and iTunes.

My OS is Vista Home Premium 32-bit, 3GB of RAM, dual core2 processor at 2.33 GHz.

On the mk3 I'm using Analog in and out 1&2 (not the mains). My buffer is 1024.

Please anyone that can help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, I've noticed that you can't turn on the MOTU before you've fully booted the computer, or Windows won't recognize it. Then after turning it on, you have to wait for Cuemix to load, the MOTU to initialize, and then load its drivers. It can take at least 10 seconds, or even more. If you try to run some audio app while the MOTU is still initialing, then the app won't detect the MOTU.

So turn your computer on first and let it fully boot before you turn the MOTU on. (And note that Windows is still booting even when you first see the desktop). Then turn on the MOTU and give it about 15 seconds before you run any audio app. (And turn off that startup sound. It's pointless here).
