I thought the 8Pre was capable of using phantom power over either TRS or XLR cables, but I can only seem to get it to work with XLR. Is this pretty typical or am I missing something?
The only real problem I have is that all my TRS cables are Mogami and the only one XLR cable I have is a radio shack piece of garbage. I'd hate the thought of having two useless Mogami TRS cables because I now need XLR to utilize phantom power. Would a TRS to XLR adapter work as an alternative vs buying two new 15' Mogami cables?

Re: 8Pre Phantom Power /Cable Question
just buy some (or one) good mic lead/s as needed. Can't really imagine doing anything without some mic leads.
Try and avoid adapters if you can. They just add another weak link in your' signal path. A good cable made for the job is worth its weight in gold!

Re: 8Pre Phantom Power /Cable Question
I ended up doing just that. A local Electronics store had "Peavy" 50' XLR cables for like $18. I figured I'd give them a try since they had a return policy. I haven't gone too far into recording to see if they're making any kind of signal noise, but at least my condenser mics are getting Phantom Power now.
