gotta buy a new Mac

one of the CPU's on my 5 year old G5 died this week. the best price I can find on an integrated CPU & cooling unit is ~ $300. with labor it's gonna be $400+ to fix. it ain't worth it IMO. so I'm looking for a new machine. I'm looking at some used 8 core Mac Pro's on eBay I want to get one with a year or so of AppleCare left on it so I can feel confident it will be OK. most don't say & probably don't know which processor is in them. it's confusing 'cause I see a range of processor speeds including 2.26, 2.66, 2.8, 3, 3.2 etc. I use DP 7.2, Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. all on a regular basis. as it is I am going to have to buy new UAD cards as the 4 I have now are all PCI. fortunately my Adobe CS3 will still run on Snow Leopard and I have the latest MS Office so all that should be good to go. I figure 6 MB or RAM should be OK for now and I have a couple of 7200 RPM SATA drives from the old machine I will move over.

here is one machine I am considering: Apple Mac Pro 2.8GHz - 8 Cores, 18 months of Applecare | 16GB Ram | 750GB + 750GB HD | SuperDrive | Radeon HD 2600 | Bluetooth
$ 2,750

any particular suggestions? thanks...

Check out my sig - you'll find one there. I love this machine. It's quiet and fast. Not much more to say about it.

got a 8 core 3GHz Mac Pro with 7 Gig of RAM about a week ago. pretty darn killer machine. only downside has been reinstalling all the software I use. nice to have the latest OS for a change too.
