New Mac Mini
http://www.apple.com/macmini/features.html
Plenty of ports make it ready for anything.
Mac mini makes things happen. It can connect to any digital display right out of the box. In addition to HDMI, Mac mini comes with both Mini DisplayPort output and an HDMI-to-DVI adapter, so it’s ready to connect to the Apple LED Cinema Display or a third-party display you already have. You can even connect two displays to see more of your photos, movies, and files. And there’s a built-in SD card slot, which makes it easy to grab photos and videos from your digital still or video camera. Mac mini gives you ports galore: four USB 2.0 ports and one FireWire 800 port, so you can plug in your keyboard, mouse, iPod, iPhone, iPad, digital camera, DV camcorder, external hard drive, printer, and just about any other device you use.

I posted it here. Jim, if you want to get rid of mine it's cool to save some space.
The cool thing is that Apples starting to release new hardware (Macs) so the Mac Pro's aren't too far off now!

Re: New Mac Mini
Sweet! I'm building a navigation system for my boat around a mini - might as well upgrade it.
As to WWDC - the Mac was conspicuously absent - it was all about the iPhone and iPad (ios 4).
I suspect Apple is going to start leapfrogging things having alternate mac years and consumer device years. Snow Leopard was a lot to absorb - I think it will be a matter of watching to see how it actually scales in the real world (so far indications look good) and some of that fancy threading stuff is making it down to the phone and pad.
This is all conjecture on my part of course.

Oh man... wouldn't that be nice. Of course, I'll have to sell my old equipment trailer and my current Mac Pro... but hey... I bet those hexacores are gonna be wicked fast.HCMarkus wrote:I'm hoping newrigel is right and MPs are close on the tail of this announcement.

God, I love that signature. You too, huh? Anybody wanna buy my MT-32 or FB-01? Perhaps I could interest you in a Behringer Ultrafex II. Hardly been used... but when it was I did a lot of damage with it... proving that a little knowledge is indeed a dangerous thing!Thousands of $'s worth of vintage gear currently valued in the dozens of dollars.

I hope Apple starts to put eSata Ports on it's new machines. When it does, I could live with almost any of them.

Re: New Mac Mini
I still have a working Ensoniq Mirage and a big box of about 60 sample floppies. I've got a Kawaii R-100 drum machine complete with second latin percussion sound chip (takes a half hour with a screwdriver to crack the case and switch sounds). I have an ESQ-1 which was my go-to sequencer for a long time. I have a Roland 24 channel line mixer (for mixing lots of keyboards) that is a little noisy now for recording. How bout an Akai ME-30P MIDI patch bay (juggles up to 4 buses)? Little by little I've been sampling my favorite old school sounds and patches using SampleIt. My 80's rig consisted of a 4 stack of ESQ-1, Korg DW-8000, Mirage, and Juno-106 and a Scholz Rockman (original) for my "amp" - all submixed and then fed to the main board. I've got a Juno-alpha around here too. I suppose I should get to craigslisting some of it at some point but it seems like more work than it is worth and yet I can't bear to have it hauled to the dump either.James Steele wrote:SixString:

Never. But I know a guy on MOTU-MAC who still had one in the original box. Took a picture of himself holding it up. Priceless!b.g. wrote:Still have the Waveboard, James?

Re: New Mac Mini
I have an EPS 16+ module that I still absolutely adore. It's stupid I know. I have the SCSI option and a drive it's hooked up to. I've been able to convert some of my favorite sounds into Kontakt and others to Mach Five, but some that I really like just won't make the jump.
I also have a Roland MKS-30 with the PG-100 controller that has some nice fat sounds that I like. Of course it's sick and needs repair. Also the voice modules all inevitably fail in these machines and I had to cannibalize 2 or 3 other machines to scrape together enough of them. My current problem though I think is less serious and I need to take it in to a tech.

Can anyone confirm that the new Mac Minis use the new PCIe-speed firewire buss?

Ordered a new Mac Mini yesterday to replace the existing G4 mini. Time for a big speed bump anyway. Now what to do with this extra G4 Mc mini?
