Zoom H4n, portable audio recorders
Does anyone have experience with portable audio recorders such as the Zoom H4n? What do you think of them? And is there any one that you would recommend for general voice recording. TIA
Mac Pro 1.1, SL 10.6.8, 13 gigs ram, DP7, 2 MTP-AV-USB, MTP-AV serial, Microlite, 828mk2, 828mk3, HDX-SDI, 7 other Macs

It sure beats carrying around a DAT machine with mic's & 50' cables.
I have the H2 and use it for general field recording, not voice so I can't comment on your direct question. Very handy though. XY stereo (90º & 120º) does a good job of capturing what you hear. Absolute necessity to use the little hat/wind filter accessory if recording outdoors. These things are very convenient & inexpensive. Another bonus of living in future.

Re: Zoom H4n, portable audio recorders
Well I got the H4n and I am impressed. Has XLR inputs, 4 channels, mine came with 16gb flash memory that is good for 25 hours at mex quality, and over 250 hrs at 160kb mp3. Uses 2 AA batteries. I tried a pair of eneloops NiMH and they lasted for about 8 hours of continuous record time. Don't have a dat, but several audio tape recorders, mic pre, limiter etc can all ne left at home and just use the H4n with my MacBook and an external hard drive for data. looks good, sounds good.
