Can I use patch cables from sound modules to A/D?

I've got a question:

Would it be a bad idea to use patch cables to go from my sound modules to my A/D converter? The patch cables aren't shielded, and I was thinking that might compromise the sound quality (or let interference creep into the signal). But then I was thinking - why are using patch cables OK at all? Is it because they are so short (mine are ~1.5 feet) that they don't need to be shielded?

Of course I could just use regular cables, but I'm trying to clean up the tangled mass of cables behind my racks, and using 1.5 foot cables would clean things up a lot.

Any insight on this would be appreciated.

When I bought my Mackie mixers, I also bought their patch cables. They have mono and stereo with RCA phone plugs. Might find some on eBay. I have found that non- gold plated are intermittent - corrosion probably.

Do get shielded cables. Maybe non-shielded is ok for line level signals, but yes, your points are well taken. Try the unshielded for a while, but if you care about the sound, go for the best interconnects you can get. My HO.
