.
I'm SO HAPPY!
After spending the full evening downloading Tiger's updates, and then Leopard's, like 700MBs in total, I finally could instal Leopard in the G5 (I just found where I can download all that as Zip files from Apple to keep them in a CD for future protection and avoid this again).
Then came the MIDI and Audio MOTU drivers.
Then came DeePeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
At first, the second I opened it it crashed. Puff! My heart started beating faster. Then I upgraded it (from 7 to 7.1). The moment I created and saved a new file, it crashed again... Puff... I was like: "Oh, nooooooooo". Not very encouraging, you know?
I was trying to save it in the other HD (the Audio one). But then, I was able to save the session in the SYSTEM disk, so that gave me a clue...
The problem was that, for some reason, the ownership of the Audio volume was set to "unknown- Read only". THE SECOND I pressed Command-I, and checked the Ignore Ownership for this Volume, and hit Apply to Enclosed Folders, then EVERYTHING WAS GREAT!
I did my Audio-MIDI setup, and I was able to play MIDI. I set my preferences the way I wanted them. Then I duplicated a big project created with 4.61, opened it in 7.1, gave it a few moments to rebuild the waveforms, and.... [Drum roll...] PERFECTION! It feels yes, much snappier
, and everything seems to be running great. I did a few extreme Pitch correction stuff (just playing around) and it seems to sound better, and it didn't give me the glitches I was already used to with 4.61.
Granted. I haven't installed Waves, so the project was running without any plugs. But I am SO happy.
On monday I will set Time Machine and let it do its thing. Then, I will stress the computer more, will instal the Spectrasonics' stuff, and Virtual Guitarist 2 (if it's possible). After I'm CONVINCED everything works as it should, THEN and only then will I mess with the Waves updates.
Oh, and one thing that is SO URGENT too... I need to get Amplidood's and iPerformer's mods! The interface looks so ugly in my big monitors, so I need some eye-candy from these guys (after a donation, of course).
A HUEVOOOOOO!!!!! I'm so happy now!
There were just a couple of things I noticed:
1.- The G5 seems to be a little louder than before. Like it's working harder, or something. I will keep an eye on this.
2.- I was not able to find the file that let's me see my Roland JV-2080 expansion cards. I could've SWORN they were on the Extras disk in DP4, but I couldn't find them there...
Does anyone know where I can find this little magic file? It was a tiny one... I remember I just double clicked on it, and as if by magic, I could suddenly see all my Roland's expansion cards. But I didn't find it DP4 disks nor in DP7's...
ANY IDEAS THERE?
Except for point number 2, I'm so excited now I'm actually singing aloud!
