The title says it all. Can you use the 2408 as a digital patchbay without the PCI card? Also one followup question. I used to have a 2408 MKII (several years ago) and I was always having problems with it. Has the software gotten much better over the years? OK thanks, Alex

I use a 2408 mk3, and I have no issues at all. I've been using it for at least 4 years now, and it's been rock solid. I have not tried using it stand alone, but I'm pretty sure it will not work. You need the computer to route all the channels. I guess I always try it out.

Yes it works in standalone mode. I don't know what you mean by "patchbay" but it work as a "standalone convertion format" , meaning convert from Analog/ADAT/TDIF to analog/ADAT/TDIF.
Clearly stated here;
