828 MKII and Mac Pro - 828 is on but nobody's home

Dear All,

Until yesterday everything was fine. 2009 Mac Pro tower running Logic/Live/Snow Leopard and the 828 doing it's job. Then I got some new studio furniture so unplugged everything after switching off the power. I plugged everything back together and the Mac Pro just can't see the 828.
Things I've done to resolve issues:
1. Installed latest 828 drivers from website.
2. Tried the unit with 3 different firewire cables with all external drives disconnected. I've tried all of the Firewire 800 sockets. I've also tried different length cables.
3. Reset the 828.

But every time I check the Mac Preferences the 828 isn't there. It starts up and looks normal. Have I missed something? Do these units fail? It's about 4 years old.

Many thanks,

Damon

Do other FW devices work? If you daisy chain another FW device through the 828, does it show up? What does it say for firewire in System Profiler when the 828 is plugged in?

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Other firewire devices do work i.e. like external drives.
And no, it doesn't show up under firewire devices in the system profiler.
So maybe the firewire ports have failed.
Do you know if this is a common problem?
Cheers Damon

I have exactly the same problem. MacBook Pro, installed newest drivers, cables are good, FW800 port is good, did a factory reset, and Mac is still not seeing the 828. Does this sound familiar or relevant to anyone else?

also.......I just daisy-chained a Lacie drive to the 828, and the Lacie powers up when I plug Mac in via the other FWport and another cable (even when the MOTU is switched off this works for some reason). However, the Mac is still not seeing either piece of hardware. Ideas anyone? HELP!!!
