424 and windows 7 x64

Having trouble getting a legacy pci-424 card to work with W7 64-bit.
I can download the set-up application. I shut down and plug in the card with a 2408 mkII, then start back up. Windows installs the driver perfectly and CueMix discovers the unit and everything is fine. After shutting down a second time and rebooting, the device driver is no longer found on the PC.
I already found one replier to another post who said older 424 cards don't work with 64-bit windows, but how can that be true if it was able to install and run once?
I would really like to be able to use this card and not upgrade to a PCIe. Please help.
