change the default audio file to .wav or .aif

Hello, this seems like it would be simple but it is not turning out to be so. I'm using DP 5.1.3: is there a way to force my default audio to be either .wav or .aif? I think that sd2 files cause me many problems when transferring and not everyone can read them. I want my default recording audio to be .wav files or .aif files. Thanks.

Are you talking about exporting with the bounce to disk feature? The default export format is SD 2. The raw audio format of OS X is aiff. and DP will BTD in a wave file (and LAME with the LAME framework installed) format also. Highlight the tracks you want to bounce and go to the menu in audio/bounce to disk and a dialog box appears you see the top dropdown and your export formats will be there... pick the one you want and then another dialog will show to specify if you want to stay @ the session's settings or specify a bit depth and sample rate. Make sure you select dithering (in the audio menu) if your session is 24 bit 48k sample rate and you want to export to the red book standard of 16/44.1k. You can also save the export settings for future use.
Hope this helps...

No - I am not talking about exporting. That is all well and good. I am talking about the basic recording task - Digital Performer 5.1.3 defaults and works in sd2. Is there some way to force it to work with .wav or .aif files? When you export a file and change the format, you lose the time stamping feature. This and some other functions make that unacceptable. Any other ideas? Thanks.

You'll need to upgrade to change the file format. 5.xx uses SDII only while versions 6.xx and better give you the option of BWAV, AIFF or SDII. There are also a lot of other worthwhile features added along the way so go for the 7.x upgrade. Some folks are reporting some problems with 7.1 but the 7.02 version appears rock solid for most.

u can always save as OMF - and I believe there's an option ( dont embed the audio) that will make a folder of wav files for you..

let us know if the time stamps make thru alive!!
