but but but i am the administrator

Post by midiw »

Well i made my self another mess:

first, i installed the SnowLeopard onto a FW external drive and all went smooth and i made myself the admin guy of the drive.

Then i installed DP 7 and all went smooth until i launched it and tried to load a file from the tutorial folder ( that i dragged/dropped to the said FW hard drive ) there was a very nasty message that advised my i do not have privileges and that i am not the administrator to open the file and when i tried to quit DP 7 it would not quit. So i had to force quit.

How do resolve this ?

First, repair permissions. Second, when you "get info"
on the drive do you have ownership and read and write permission?

Try running the DP installer again when you are booted from the external drive and logged in as Admin. Repair permissions before and after this install.

Sorry folks for wasting your time with my problem.

I think i know why DP is convinced that i am not the admin guy.

The problem stems from the fact that this external FW drive is daisy chained to the first FW drive because these new macs have FW 800 port whereas both of my FW only have the FW 400 port. So you need a special cable to break out from the 800 to 400 port. My first FW drive is connected by the 400 to 800 port but my second FW drive is connected by the 400 to 400 port.

Therefore as best as i can figure this out DP wants to be authorized from the first FW drive. Since i had DP already installed on the first FW drive when i launched it from the second FW it had no problems in opening and working with files.

I find this so strange because i have other MIDI/audio programmes installed on the second FW drive and none of them complained about ownership.
