Do you use UVI Workstation?

I forgot all about UVI Workstation. When I switched from my ppc to a Mac Pro I neglected to install it. I'm downloading it now. I was just curious who uses it, how it works for you, and how you're using it. I'll be watching the videos they have available and that James posted. I seem to remember there were some frustrating limitations to it when I tired it out before, but now I can't remember what those limitations were, and hopefully they have been fixed in the newest version.

Thanks,

Dan Worley

Actually I use it all the time because I had Plugsound Pro and it's compatible (same people make it). I have no idea what frustrating limitations you're speaking off. I do remember one thread where someone thought it was limited because he didn't quite know the interface or even see where the loop section was and how you can drag & drop onto DP's track overview. It's rather full-featured IMHO. It's not MachFive, but it's very capable.

Either do I. :) It could have even been another app I'm thinking of, though something about not being to able to save multi patches seems to come to mind. Anyway, I'll check it out. Thanks.

The version that came with DP 6 was somehow glitchy, like it had problems playing back its included sounds ... at least on my system, and perhaps a few others'. However, before deciding on purchasing Kontakt, I had downloaded the most recent version from UVI's site and they seemed to not only have fixed all the glitches I experienced, but straightened out a few browsing problems I noticed with their GUI. All in all, it's not a bad sample player. Give the latest version a chance.

James, have you gotten into the other Plugsound soundbanks? I know they released a few; I'd read up on Plugsound Pro and, thinking of the MOTU sample VIs, was at least intrigued by the sound quality and playability.

Yep... they've done a lot of work to it. Well, actually I originally bought Plugsound Pro when Sweetwater was blowing it out for $99. It comes with a lot of very useable stuff. The UVI Workstation plays the PlugSound library and it's newer code and the old Plugsound player is no longer being updated. On recommendation of a member here I also got their Xtreme FX sound bank:

http://www.uvisoundsource.com/uvi-sound ... ucts_id/38" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I like the sound quality of their stuff. Very clean... very useable, IMHO.

I use UVI Workstation all the time.
On Studios sessions ( DP) and shows ( Macbook running MainStage).
I used to use UVI Workstation as an Apple Loop Browser too.
Just find the loop , drag and drop on DP tracks.
I use: Retro organs , Synth Anthology ,CP Eletric Grand ( to emulate CP-70) , Jazzistic , Mayheim of loops.
The Retro Organ is the best. Love the synths sounds from Synth Anthology too.
ILOK required.
Regards!

Thank you, Jota. Good to know.

Now, if I ccoud only get it to work. :( As soon as it's done downloading I'm going to try an older version. The newest version won't play wav, aif or caf files on my system.

Thanks,

Dan Worley

Very strange, but I can't get it to work. It only plays the files that come with it and nothing else. Weird. I tried three different clean installations of it going back three versions and it's always the same thing. I tied both MAS and AU versions, separately. I also tried trashing the Audio Unit Info Cache but that didn't fix it either. There may be some preference or application support file for it that needs to be trashed but I've not been able to find one.

Oh well, I guess I wasn't meant to use it right now.

Thanks,

Dan Worley

It seems to me I may have had a similar problem trying to play back files on UVI, but having switched over to Kontakt 3.5 (which will most definitely play all your .wav, .aif or any other sample file format sounds), I wound up just dumping it off of my machine. I don't use Apple loops (which Kontakt also plays just fine), and after steeping myself in Kontakt libraries, plus owning SampleTank, most of my sampler needs are taken care of. You may also want to try iZotope's PHATmatik Pro plug, which plays most sample formats, or you could just simply try nanosampler inside of DP, which loads pretty much anything.

I bought the PlugSound Pro deal from Sweetwater but never installed it.
Is it usable in DP 7 with Leopard or Snow Leopard or is there some upgrade path to the UVI Worstation??

TIA,
Dope
