i'm sure this has been covered here before, but searches under various keywords brought up nothing...

is there a way to sort my plug ins in DP into folders? i notice some manufacturers plugs are in folders.... UAD, sonnox, stillwell, etc etc.. .but a lot of them aren't (audioease, brainworx..)

in my AU plug in folder on the HD none of the organized plugs (UAD for example) are in folders... so how does DP know to put those in one within the program? and, is it possible for me to make folders for my plugs that aren't showing up in one?

You can organize DP's MAS plugins into subfolders.

Unfortunately, the AU plugins are organized automatically according to metadata that the developers place into the plugin files themselves . This is the way that the AU spec works.

DP uses this into to group the plugins in it's list, however it will only create a subfolder in the list if you own multiple plugins from a given vendor.

too bad audioease doesn't conform to this!

all of my audioease plug ins are scattered around... even "Speakerphone" is beneath "altiverb" in the alphabetical list!.. ugh..

I know... It's a real pain when the vendors make slight modifications to their info too.

Regarding AudioEase.... they make both MAS and AU versions.

See what happens if you remove the MAS versions from the list.

I removed all of my 3rd Party MAS Plugins so that there are no duplicates.

I really, really, REALLY want MOTU to update the Audio Plugins preferences so that the AU and MAS plugins can be sorted by developer. When trying to enable or disable a plugin in that preference window it is painful scrolling through that long list and finding things all spread around. Since most of them are already organized when locating them in the main application it would be nice if they were similarly sorted in the preferences window!

i believe audioease recommends the MAS versions for DP.. which is why i've always used those, despite the minor inconvenience, over the AU.

I haven't had any issues using the AU version of Altiverb and Cabinet but that is all I have from them so YMMV.

Call me chicken, but I'm afraid for MOTU to mess with plugin folders. I'm just afraid of those unpredictable glitches that occur when you make a move like that, and the one or two developers whose plugins didn't quite follow spec end up bringing down the whole thing. Eventually it would get ironed out, but why ask for it?

I agree. I don't think that Motu should try and outsmart the AU standard and allow subfolders in the finder. Apple needs to make that move.

That said, they could allow users to categorize the plugins a bit more freely within DP. Either that or they could be less literal/more general in their translating of AU metadata.

That said... one of my favorite new features in 7.1 are the plugin presets as they allow you to sort by intended use.

I'm not suggesting that they should mess around with anything in the Finder context. I am saying that since plugins are grouped by developer when we view them in an insert effect list, that same heirarchy should also exist when we look at the plugins in the Audio Plugins preferences.

They already have coding to organize the plugins for viewing. They just need to set up the Audio Plugins preference window to display it the same way as it appears in the inserts. I doubt there is much risk of creating problems since it is only displaying the same information in a different order.

If I hadn't spent so many hours troubleshooting my plugins, this wouldn't be a big deal to me. But since I've been doing a lot of enabling and disabling of plugin sets, this would save me a tonne of time and relieve some annoyance.

Yep, me too. It really makes it encouraging to create great presets and just recall them in each of your projects. I wanna have a couple really great bass presets, a couple go-to guitar presets, etc., that I can bring up quickly and easily.

Not specifically what the OP was asking for. This seems like the closest work around you could get. Just make plugin presets of just one plug for say all your comps in a folder, then all eq's in a folder... repeat. Off to experiment...

Exactly! This is what I have been doing and it's working great.
