Samplitude 828mk2 simultanous output from multiple apps

I'm running a live sound recording setup in which I am mixing music output by a media player program on my computer with live sound coming from a number of wireless mics and then recording it on the computer. The problem I'm having is that the monitoring output from my recording application is getting mixed with the music output from the media player application, creating a comb filter that ruins the live and recorded sound, making it sound like it comes out of a culvert.
Winamp is using WDM drivers, Samplitude ASIO. If I tell samplitude not to connect to any outputs, the problem goes away, but I lose monitoring and editing capability. If I set Samplitude to have access to outputs, then the problem returns, even if the monitoring stream is sent to a different set of outputs (such as the phones). It is as though any output from Samplitude is sent to the out1,2 outputs even if it is not directed that way. From there it is mixed with the music being output by winamp, and disaster occurs.
If I call MOTU for support, they blame Magix(Samplitude). If I call Magix, they blame MOTU. I suspect the problem is some kind of feature or bug in Samplitude that is particular to the 828mk2, since MOTU says this should work with other software.
The 828mkII is set up to have all mixes muted with all input sliders set to zero. I'm not using the mixing capability at all, just using it as a multichannel sound card.
Code: Select all
