MOTU ultralite mk2 + windows 7 x64

Hello everyone,
I just bought a motu ultralite MKII from amazon.I am using it with cubase 4 and Sonar 8.5 (as I do lots work for 2 local studios from home)
The problem i have is a strange one....I'm not sure if its the latest drivers from motu (3.7.37320), but when I record an 8 bar loop for example, even with preroll, the first audio note is always cut off and the same happens again when its loop recording (once it gets to the second take, etc)
I have tried some percussive notes on my electric guitar, but ALL of them are approximately 1000ms before each grid line. I downloaded reaper 3 to test and it has the exact same weird problem.
I have tried the IEEE1394 host controller as both standard and legacy (same result, but I have to use legacy as a default otherwise i get consistent crackles with my ultralite, all the ultralite meters light up (pulsating) and I can't hear anything.(the "legacy" was the fix for the crackles)
MOTU ultralite mk2 (3.7.37320 driver)+ windows 7 x64 (all latest updates)...and yes Texas Instruments based firewire.
Any ideas what might be causing this PRE-timing problem?
