I need to use a VST linear phase plug in with DP. It has likely been covered, but information changes so quickly that I though I might dare to ask again, what is the best way to provide VST capability in DP? Although I am on an old G4 I am setting up a new mac mini running snow leopard so that is the configuration I am seeking any information about.

You could try VST Wrapper by AudioEase (http://www.audioease.com/Pages/wrapper/wrapperMain.html), or a similar product by FXspansion (http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=5), but you may encounter a problem. If your VST plug-in isn't Universal Binary, it won't run in Snow Leopard, even with a VST wrapper, and DP won't see it. If your plug is UB, chances are high that the company that produces it will have a UB/AU version available (I'm hard-pressed to think of a Mac audio plug-in out now that only offers a VST version), and you should seriously consider upgrading to that version before using a wrapper.

Also bear in mind that Audioease's VSTWrapper has never been updated to run on Intel Macs.

+++1 Nice EQ! There are enough AU solutions that you won't be in envy of a VST only plug.

If VSTwrapper won't work on the new intel is there any other choice than FXexpansion? $100 just to run 1 plug is unfortunate.

This was recommended on a high end forum because like the $8K Weiss EQ I LP is uses a forward backward time implementation not FFT to achieve linear phase. Still I will give a listen to Neon and TRacks, thanks for the suggestions. If anyone hasn't experienced linear phase EQ you really should, just to know what is possible.

I gave wrappers up a long time ago... I found them to be another thing that can go wrong, and never got them working as expected.
Besides, wouldn't this be having an extra layer on top of yet another layer? (MAS).

My suggestion would be to forget about VST and use AU instead. It's not like there are not enough GREAT plug-ins for AU...

I'm not aware of any other VST wrapping solutions, I'm afraid, so FXpansion owns the game. The only other thing you could do is get Cubase.

If you have Powercore, their Dynamic EQ is linear phase. One other native linear phase plug-in that's well worth a try is Fabfilter's Pro-Q ($199). The demo is downloadable:

The Plogue Bidule AU plugin also functions as a VST Wrapper in DP, however it does not pass on Automatic Delay Compensation, so you would have to be careful with its application.

Google is great but the members of this board are wonderful as in full of wonder at the breath and depth of the information and experience represented. Thanks to all who have helped and to those who would have as well.

Neon is modeled after analog circuits and has exact modes so processor intensive that the core two duo 2.5 GHz Mac mini is running YELLOW as in almost at the limit of its ability with just twi instances.

The Fabfilter Pro Q is incredibly intuitive and seems to have the most robust GUI. I really like that the window scales to +- 30 db and there is no prefixed type or number of bands. It also is much more processor friendly. Both of these far surpass the Sonoris EQ and I think the advice to avoid VST if possible is correct. More listening is needed but it looks like the Fabfilter Pro Q may just be the ticket.

I'd say go Powercore, Scope, or UAD but your limited with the MM. EQ's either give character, or in corrective applications, one needs the environment (acoustically tuned room) to actually put it into practice to get the full potential of a surgical EQ....
I think the most critical thing if any, are just your ears. Most of the solutions are fine unless you have a million $$ room where you can actually hear it and there's a lot more going on too like conversion etc. so putting the best EQ on your MOTU I/O isn't going to take advantage of that degree of precision.
