Afternoon all;

I'm in the process of ever so slowly moving to Snow Leopard. I've got a SL start up disk and I'm checking everything out there before making the move. I have an old database called Filemaker 7 and when I started it up under SL it asked for Rosetta to be installed. (Oddly, FM7 doesnt need Rosetta under Leopard). OK, I let it install Rosetta and all seems well, and I know that Rosetta isnt open unless needed, but being the paranoid type, let me ask; Is there any possible downside to allowing Rosetta to be installed on my main drive? It's got to dump files and bits and pieces into Library folders, or where ever, and can these bits and pieces cause incompatibilities that anyone knows of?

I have Rosetta installed and as far as I can tell, it hasn't caused any problems. I use Filemaker 7 myself. There was some discussion a while back (I think I saw it on MacFixIt) about the best way to install it though. Apparently, it's better to install it from the Snow Leopard install disk than allowing an app to call for an on-line install. I can't remember what the reason was for this, but that's what the article was suggesting. I also read some rumors about a 10.6.3 version of SN being seeded to developers. One of the things listed was an improved Rosetta. Don't know if any of this helps, but it's what I know. You should be OK.

I know Filemaker 7 will be fine, at least I suppose so, it being quite rudimentary compared to all this complex music crap. Just dont want to install Rosetta and have it and blow up Drumcore or Spectrasonics or something...sigh...Your words give me the strength to carry on, however

I HATE upgrading although I will say the upgrade to DP 7 has been great, just like everyone said. Couple of weeks now and nary a crash. Now THAT'S an upgrade we can all get behind!
