DP compatibility

Post by orijames »

Hi, I recently upgraded my Mac to Leopard (I don't have Intel) and had therefore to upgrade DP to 7.01. Now Kontact 2.2 doesn't work with DP 7 so I am at a kind of crossroads: I can either uninstall Leopard and DP 7 and go back to where I was before or continue with what I have. I have asked Native Instruments (Kontact) what would be compatible with DP 7, but after several weeks they still have not gotten back to me. Does anyone have any thoughts as to the following: is Kontact (and VSL) still the best and is the latest version therefore worth buying or would MOTU's Symphonic Sounds (which seems, from the description, to be very good) be something to look into (it would definitely be compatible with DP)? And what about what East West has to offer? I also have to upgrade my MachFive, because the version I have won't work with DP. I liked what I had before (Kontact and MachFive) because it covered 2 bases: Kontact for orchestral sounds and MachFive for Hip Hop, etc. (unless there's a better combination). I seem also to be having a problem with the fan on my Mac which might push me (if there is a greater problem) into getting a new computer. I am doing all this just for my home studio, so I don't want to get into spending thousands to get something workable. I'm a little lost, so any suggestions would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks very much, OJ :?

It's always a problem to update some but not other components. I personally think Kontakt 4 is much better than Kontakt 2, and MachFive 2 is much better than MachFive 1, but as you say it does get expensive...

So if you can afford it, get everything to the current version (including sooner or later your Mac), or else leave everything in a working state. You can make music for years on an old PPC Mac with Tiger, DP5, Kontakt 2 etc. But as you are experiencing, you can update in increments only so far before getting into trouble.

Good luck!

Are you sure about K2? I just launched DP7 and I opened it right up! You have some other issues if you can't use K2 in DP7. I'm using 2.2.4 in DP 7.02. And you never said what kind of Mac your using...

It might have something to do with which version of K2.2 you are using. I'm not at my workhorse machine at the moment, but I thought I remembered having to update Kontakt 2.2.4 for Leopard compatibility.
6,1 MacPro, 96GB RAM, macOS Monterey 12.7.6, DP 11.33
