Ok so im running Windows7 x64 a Motu 828mk3 and i had the initial related problem with Firewire drivers.

I changed the Firewire PCI driver to the (legacy) one and the 828mk3 finally worked, the thing is i get audio dropout from time to time, like every minute or less.

I´ve tested with a different audio card M-Audio 1814 Firewire, and while i get no audio dropouts with this one the audio gets noise cracks from time to time.

My firewire pci card is a cheap one with no Ti chipset, would anyone with similar problems got it fixed by replacing the Firewire Card?

Im thinking of getting a Firewire 800 with Ti chipset and PCI-E, and i will pray for it to work out this time.

Can anyone relate to this? I find it weird that the M-Audio runs acceptable in most of DAW usage and only generates some noises on heavy CPU VSTs usage, while the MOTU simply keeps dropping audio like every 30s-60secs.

I'm having the exact same issues, onboard firewire doesn't work, PCI Express (non TI) card didn't work either. I had a TI PCI firewire card that I tried in a different machine with Windows XP and it worked flawlessly. I have another TI chip card coming in the PCI Express form factor and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Very frustrating to have a Quad core 6Gb machine with two 8pre's and get nothing but pops and buzzes! This is my first firewire system and it looks like the TI chip is defacto.

I have an 8pre that had the same problems you have.I have a quadcore i7 machine with 6gig DDR3 RAM running Windows 7 64 bit. The legacy firewire driver solved most of my troubles. I also went into Device Manager and disabled all sound devices except for the MOTU and this seemed to eliminate the pops and clicking. Don't know if this will help but it worked for me.
