Ultrlite: 4 pin problems

Hey guys,
so after a gig last weekend I come to realise that i have a pretty annoying problem connecting my ULmk3 with firewire. I guess no one is really to blame but myself, however if there was a way to fix this, Im all ears.

The 4 pin connection sits in grand; pushed in as far as it can go, and doesnt really budge too much, but quite often the connection is lost, sometimes when it gets a bang, and other times, when seemingly nothing happens. what is more annoying is that I can usually, disable the soundcard in the ASIO settings in Live, turn off the card, turn it back on and then reselect it. This is handy enough, when it works. OTher times, I have to restart, fiddle with the cable, restart again, etc etc... finally it will work, but i am dreading the time when i am playing and this happens, and the crowd will have an unexpected break of sound for 5 or 10 minutes.

I wonder have any of you suffered similar fates? Im thinking of investing in a PCMCIA firewire card purely for the 6 pins, but i guess im worried that this problem might be coming from elsewhere.

anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated,
thanks in advance.

I wonder if there's a problem with the computer's built-in FireWire adapter. Do you notice a problem if you use a different FireWire device? For instance, if you connect a FireWire hard drive, does it unexpectedly go offline too?

First port of call should be to look at the simplest option... buy a new cable.

i am getting similar problems on my friends mac, with a 6 pin connection.

Back on my PC, after just sitting down to work on some music, i have been pulling my non-existent hair from my bald head trying to get my Ultralite to connect properly. now i am too infuriated to concentrate. I have reinstalled the drivers a few times, on a few platforms, and my unit could not be found. then randomly after changing the connection to the secondary firewire port on the Ultralite, it connected. bear in mind i had tried both ports on multiple platforms, reboots etc....

this •••• is mindblowing, and it seems it is impossible to get answers. what is a man to do in this day in age huh?
