not sure this is the place to ask

but how would I allow a co-worker to browse my hard drives over a network and preview files - and copy files - but stop them lifting whole folders..

I dont mind them taking the odd file but not copying my library en masse..

is it poss?

thanks

Aside from individual protection per file, I don't think there is a way to do this. To access a file you need permission to access the folder. If you have that, you can copy the folders.

I kind of figured that would be th case - was hoping for some further insights..

maybe there's an app that has access but the user doesnt..

Or a way to prevent drives being mounted to a system?

I think other people have this problem?

thanks tho MLC

I wouldn't want anyone to browse my files at all. What you might do is upload to a server (website) and apply security. Perhaps a .mac account might be an answer as well. I don't have one but I suspect they would have a solution if anyone did.

well unfortunately as these computers are on my LAN and I need to co-operate with them they can, do and are raiding my FX library as we speak.. cos we working together - but I would like to prevent the dubious copying of entire libraries ..

I just bought a network box- ( after raid 5 (?) its got 4.3 Tb to fill up..

I have created a new share folders- I can make some stuff read only to some people which will stop the accident erasure of archived projects..

maybe I need to move beyond audio finder?

I suppose I can run a web based solution on my LAN?

audio finder is great tho!

You could move specific folders to your home folder and use file vault to encrypt them. Preferences>Security>File Vault

tough problem to solve but it is solvable with some work:

encrypt/password protect specific folder's
or make certain files/folders invisible

that is just leave the files they can look at but the ones they can't lock them out into special locked/invisible folders

As suggested set permissions for folders they don“t need to see. For further protection I can only think of network data quotas...
You can check in your server for the data transfered.
Maybe you can block downloads after certain amount that would reasonably get you through a day of work. That would prevent it from going beyond some point and notify you.
