Yesterday I installed Cubase 5 32 bit in XP 64.
I also installed BPM and MachFive. I made sure to update to latest versions for the MOTU instruments.

After installing, when trying to launch BPM or M5 2, it causes the system to reboot. Even trying to uninstall MachFive2 causes my system to reboot.

Cubase 5 installed with no problem as did NI Maschine.

I'm really new to 64 bit OS's to be honest. I'm sure if I installed the progs in XP 32 SP3 I wouldn't be having half the issues.

Would anyone recommend Vista 64 or even Windows 7?


I'm running an I7 chip with 6 GB ram.

Even my Duende PCIe runs smoothly in XP 64, so what's up with BPM and MachFive2?? I tried installing 32 bit and 64 bit versions. I actually got BPM to launch once-but then it crashed. MachFive? Nothing...

Okay, I'll reply to my own post.

It's clear that MOTU does not support their Windows users. MachFive 2 and BPM only work (and not all that good) with Windows XP 32 bit OS...After installing drivers for (initially) 32-bit versions of both MachFive and BPM in the x86 programs folder, and then the 64-bit versions, the programs won't launch. BPM launched once-and then crashed a few seconds later. Cubase 5, Maschine, my Ultralite MK 3, Kontakt all install and work fine in the 32-bit shell, but not MachFive or BPM. I know I'm not the first to experience this. The programs won't even launch, so I can't say I've seen them crash, but I'm sure (from what I've read) that they would anyway. My question is this: If MOTU cater mostly to MAC users then why don't they develop proprietary software for MAC only? I'll tell you why...It's because they prey on ignorant, ambitious composers like myself, knowing full well we can't return opened software if we're not happy with it, so they're guaranteed to keep their money. If I had any inkling that my software would not work in a 64 bit OS (whether M5 2 32 bit or 64 bit was installed-cause both versions do not work), I never would have bought the programs. What good is MachFive 2 in a 32 bit OS?!! I don't know about the rest of you, but I work with more than one piece of software, and each one requires a substantial amount of RAM to run it. I invested in a 64 bit computer with now-12 GB of RAM for that reason. Freezing and unfreezing tracks is cumbersome and impedes workflow 10-fold. I should be able to have Mach Five 2, Independence Pro, Cubase 5, BPM and Maschine open all at the same time as MIDI instruments and do audio and MIDI editing in real-time. Having those instruments working collectively with each other to be as creative as possible is why we want to embrace a 64-bit OS. In a 64 bit OS with 12 GB of RAM and a Core i7 2.93 processor-which I have, this would be a joke to pull off, but since Mach Five 2 and BPM won't work in XP x64 or Vista x64, I'm left with a 32-bit OS to work with and about 3 gigs of RAM to spread around. Useless, in this day and age of professional music production. Luckily, I'm getting a MAC in the new year...I know that no software is bug-free, and that MachFive2 and BPM probably have their issues in a MAC as well, but we all know what system works best-by far.
Again, it's no secret that MOTU's BPM and MachFive 2 drivers (32 bit and 64 bit) are as buggy as hell in Windows 64 bit OS's, so why won't they address the situation? My MOTU audio interface works great, like it always has-even in 64-bit OS environments. The software however-is another story altogether. I was going to buy MOTU Electric Keys software as well, but after this experience there isn't a chance in hell of that happening.
