DP7 Drum Editor not saving names?

Battery 3 is selected. Patch 1 is selected for the halibut!
I add the note range in the drum editor, then option-click each one to rename it.
Save the kit and rename it, then save the file as a project or template.
Doesn't make a difference.
Next time I open either, the name column only lists the MIDI notes when I select the kit.

Any thoughts on why this happening?

This thread should help:

The solution is to create a Device Group, which appears to be the only way you can add names to the Drum Editor. It must not be any different in DP7.

I just bookmarked that thread for tomorrow and future reference.

That should do it.

Thanks.

Your solution worked.

I created a new MIDI Device Group assigned to Battery 3.
Added the desired note range.
Option-clicked to rename each part.
Sorted the kit as needed.
Saved the kit as part of a template.

If I want to see the names before I do any work, I have reselect the MIDI Device Group (even though it's already selected in the parent track) which brings up the names. This step seems to be the key to seeing the names without having to record any notes before hand.

So I open the template, reselect the MIDI Device Group which brings up all the note names in my otherwise blank Drum Editor. Now I'm good to go.

Thanks.

Edit
One more thing:
I can create a New MIDI Device Group for each Battery 3 kit that I frequently use. The group is given the same name as the Battery preset. Notes are renamed and sorted as needed. The kit is renamed for the Battery preset as well.

So now when I open my template, I choose the preset name for the track output and then select the preset-named kit. Uh,.... it goes without say that I also need to select the preset in Battery 3 as well. :D

Glad it worked for you.

It took a long time to figure it out because initially I didn't understand the connection between Device Groups and track naming, even though it was mentioned as a possible solution in a few different threads. Finally one day I experimented with Device Groups, and discovered that when loaded into a new project the track names would magically appear. Even though you save track names in the Drum Editor, they don't show up unless associated with a Device Group. Why? I have no idea.

Thanks for this guys. But another problem I have is that my note grouping appear to be lost whenever I re-bring my device group up. That is, When I reassign my track, the names re-appear but I loose all the my notes grouping I did ( the Hihats together, The snare articulation etc...)

Any suggestions?

I stopped using Note Grouping because there were times when I tried to edit the group and DP would crash.

I got the Note Grouping to appear by saving the original Drum Map with the grouping I created as a Kit, and recalling the kit from the menu at the bottom of the DE Window. It didn't work 100% of the time, but usually the grouping would appear after several attempts at recalling the kit.

So you're saying without grouping, the drs editor is more stable?

Not necessarily. I'm just mentioning that I was having problems editing groups, if I wanted to make a change. Grouping itself didn't seem to cause any problems. Only ungrouping.

I'd be interested in knowing if you try saving as a kit, and if you can recall Track Groups that way.
