Macbook Pro, SL and minor monitor issue (kind of)

OK.. To cut a long story short, I damaged the screen on my Macbook Pro a few months ago. Ever since, i've been using a separate monitor screen (via the UVI cable), an apple keyboard and a kennington trackman wheel with my laptop. So essentially my laptop is now a desktop.

It actually works great like this.. The only inconvenience is that to switch it on, i have to bend down underneath my desk (where my macbook now lives), open the lid, push the on switch and then shut the lid again. All good!

So last week i bit the bullet and upgraded my laptop to Snow Leopard.. I was gonna do the whole "waiting for Stillwell" thing, but What the heck? I did it anyway.. Since doing the upgrade, using a separate monitor with my laptop doesn't work quite so smoothly.. It still works but you have to wait until the computer has fully booted up before shutting the lid. If you shut the lid before it's fully booted then the OS just stops loading. I then have to 'hard' shutdown the computer and reboot. It wasn't like this on leopard, it used to just boot up fine.

Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions appreciated!

Aside from this, i've found snow leopard to be faultless so far..

I think the way you're having to do it now is the "official" method according to Apple. Perhaps you were just "lucky" to be able to do it the previous way.

With the MacBook closed you should perhaps keep an eye on an internal temperature monitor, also.

Yeah the fan does come on quite alot.. Then again it did anyway... I do try to rest the computer fairly regularly...

Any suggestions on a good temperature monitor?

I've taken to using the second monitor screen in 'mirror' mode now, that way i can keep the macbook pro lid open so it shouldn't get quite so hot..

Isn't Temperature Monitor a nice little piece of software? I keep Temp Monitor Light always visible, and find it especially vital in my situation: my computer is in a separate room and I can't hear fan noise.
