MachFive2 Incompatible with Bose Companion 5 speakers?

Post by tdunst »

Hi am running MachFive2 v2.0.2 on a PowerMac Dual 2Ghz G5 with 4GB of RAM. I have a Bose Companion 5 speaker system attached to the computer via USB. All of my other software has no problem working with the Bose speaker system, but from some reason, the MachFive2 software (running in standalone mode) will not operate at all with this speaker system (I get an error when I try to select the Bose system from the MachFive2 preferences window). Interestingly, when I run MachFive2 as a plug in to Digital Performer (v5.13) it works just fine with the Bose speakers. Has anyone else every tried this, and if so, is there any way to get the standalone version of MachFive2 to route its audio output to the Bose speaker companion 5 speaker system?

I would suspect something in the M5 preferences as well - maybe the sample rate is different from a running app (such as DP?) but an error in connecting one app to a specific output is usually a OS issue. What does Audio/MIDI setup show in terms of this while it's happening? Are the Bose available there and in other apps? Have you tried this with all other apps not running?

You were 100% correct! It was the sample rate of MachFive2 vs. the sample rate of the Bose speakers. By default, MachFive2 has a sample rate of 44100, and the Bose speakers had a rate of 48000. All I had to do was select a compatible sample rate in MachFive2 preferences and all was well. Thank you so much for the tip!
