RAM For Recording...
I recently acquired an IMAC G5 (1.8 ghz.) and I am looking to purchase some RAM. I'm gonna probably go ahead and get 2 gigs. My question is what brands of ram do you recommend for both compatibility and quality. Some friends of mine have recommended Kingston and Crucial. I do know that the mac store is 4 to 5 times the price of a lot of brands I have looked at. Any advice?
Re: RAM For Recording...
Just make sure it's certified to run in a Mac. Other than that any brand will work.

Re: RAM For Recording...
OWC makes real good RAM. The longer you wait, the cheaper it is.
Dual G5 2.0 (pre-intel), 2408iii, DA7, WR-AD96, c1's, api312's, 10.4.10, DP 5.12, mach 5, Waves Gold., pc88, 2080, Reason 3, logic 8pro, Antares AutoTune, red lava lamp
Re: RAM For Recording...
Go with a name brand. Kingston valueRAM is not that expensive these days (picked up 1G pair at newegg lately for $83). RAM is one area where paying for name brand is worth it.
Good luck,

I wouldn't exactly consider Kingston ValueRAM a good choice. It's not certified for Mac's. I'd recommend Other World Computing also. You can get Mac certified RAM for a good price.
Re: RAM For Recording...
I don't know if Kingston is officially certified, but it definitely works in Macs. Post houses I've worked at have often preferred it -- and I'm using it right now in my G5.Originally posted by westla:

Re: RAM For Recording...
Are you (and the post houses) using the Kingston VALUERAM or Kingston regular RAM?
I too have used the ValueRAM, but I've had a few bad experiences with kernel panics that were traced to the RAM.
just a thought.

I've never had a problem with it, in two AMD 64 machines and my G5. Of course, nothing wrong with buying better RAM if you can afford it.

I think it's the regular. I say that, though, only because I didn't know there was a VALUERAM. That certainly sounds "less than high grade."Originally posted by westla:
