yes, you would need K3.

Scarbee is doing a partnership with NI that will involve Kontakt Player instruments instead of libraries for K3, but that will come in a year or something. For now you need K3.

I use red bass and black bass. I think I'll pick up blue bass on this sale. They're good K3 instruments.

If I could just see the prices in the web shop in dollars instead of Euros I might have a clue. I can't find any sort of toggle and adding to my cart still shows Euros. I guess I could go look for the exchange rate today, but ughhhh....

i was on the same boat,
i just bought the EEP, they automaticaly let you know the exchange from Euros to US Dollars in the very last step and before they charge your card,
so you can revise the charge before pay.

i have both the Red and Black Bass libraries,they are both EXCELLENT!
they sound amazing and are instantly playable,I wish i could say that about lots of other libraries.
I will get blue bass w/ this sale as well.
Besides the personal reasons Thomas probably has for motivating this change,it signals a very interesting transition we might be starting to see,this feels like a VI seismic shift.
Independent boutique sound designers might see this as a better way to go about their business in this economic climate.They can develop the libraries and let a bigger company such as NI do the sales,marketing and not have to get their hands dirty.I think the VI marketing and business model has just changed. My prediction,I think we are going to see quite a few more companies form these type of alliances,this looks very interesting to me.

Can you give your opinion as to which you might think would be the best in the context of hard rock/metal sort of stuff?

of the 2 I'd say Black Direct........... but Blue is supposed to be a little more gritty posters on other forums:www.VI-control.net have mentioned it as having a little bit more dirt and growl.
in either case Scarbee makes very good Bass VI's they are all very good and if you put either through Ampeg SVX,Amplitude or maybe Guitar Rig you should be able to get a really nice Bass .
I have Trilogy which I never use,I also have Hardcore bass,also never use , the Scarbee VI's are much better imo.
I don't want to to make your decision more difficult but I also recently got the Cherry Bass Libraries from Orange Tree,these are also excellent ,they are also made to play in Kontakt ,they have 3 libraries you might want to check out Cherry, Cherry Picked and Cherry Slapped they also have a new Jaco library(I don't think that's what you are looking for)and Pear Bass which is Acoustic String Bass.
For me Scarbees Bass VI's and Orange Trees are both the best out there now..........but in October Spectrasonic will have Trillium which will be killer and if you have Trilogy it will be either $99 upgrade or free,so there are some very good Bass VI choices.

Hey kgdrum, I have Blue bass, now in my way to buy Black bass i saw your post,
as you mentioned to James, the decision its quite difficult, (lol) i've never heard about Orange Tree, i just listen their demos and also their are amazing,
i thing Core Bass Cherry its perfect for me and my style of music (Latin genres) but i really want to have your opinion before i take a decision..
can you please expand the comparison between Black Bass and Core Bass Cherry ?
By your experience do yo regret buying any of this ones having Blue bass ??

they are both great,like 2 very good bottles of wine,you might prefer 1 over the other but you can enjoy and probably get lots of use from either if given the choice.
Black Bass seems a little fuller but i think there will be times I prefer 1 and on other songs I might go for Cherry I really can't say 1 is better than the other.
Scarbee being on sale I'd say grab it,Cherry is also reasonably priced and it is a hard choice but I am glad I have both.Blue is my next purchase.

I'm a huge fan of Scarbee's stuff. Everything he's ever done has been top notch. One of the all time best Rhodes samples. You can read my review of Black Bass here:

I also liked the Scarbee Imperial Drums XL (which wasn't actually done by Thomas Skarbye and was later split off as a Chocolate Audio product), but I didn't like the Halion interface so I never ended up using it much. There was talk for some time that SID XL was going to be ported over to the BFD platform, but it never happened, unfortunately.) Of course, this is a non-issue for all the other stuff, which is based around the Kontakt engine. And the most recent stuff, the bass stuff, makes absolutely brilliant use of Kontakt scripting. The partnership w/ NI will make for even tighter integration. And Thomas has stated that if you buy today, there will be a free upgrade in the future.

One thing to note, I believe at least one of my credit cards charges me a fee for purchases in non-US currency. "Foreign currency transfer fee," I think they call it. A lot of credit card companies do it. It's been a while and I can't remember was percentage it was. If you have several credit cards, you might want to call your customer service number first and find out which cards you have charge this fee and what % they charge, and use one that doesn't charge the fee, or charges a lower %, if you can.

when I saw how playable Red bass was, I immediately grabbed Black on Scarbees next sale,now it is time to get Blue Bass w/ this latest sale.

Drummer question of the day:
on a side note a few libraries I downloaded(Orange Tree etc...) and already installed,the files are sitting on my desktop,how do I save these on a DVD for my next install when I get a new Intel mac.Should I save the original file before it is unzipped or the unzipped file?

Cool! I didn't know about Orange Tree basses (demos sound great on website), so thanks for turning me on to that!

In terms of the zip file question... It's hard to answer, not being there and knowing exactly how you're doing the transfer of the entire library. Like, for example, if you have a large Kontakt library, and it's all on an internal drive, the easiest way would probably be to just do a Finder drag copy to an external drive and transfer your whole library like that.

In terms of the zip files ... You don't necessarily need to keep the zip files on your hard drive, once you've installed the library. They are just taking up extra disk space. But you might want to keep them as a backup, since it was a downloaded product. It's a question of how it all fits on DVDs. If you can fit the entire library on a DVD, uncompressed, just do that. It saves the time it takes to uncompress. But if a library turns out to be too big to fit on a single DVD, but it DOES fit on one disk when it is zipped, then you might want to burn the zip to DVD for the convenience of having the entire library on one disc. So, as I see it, it is a matter of how things fit on discs, the convenience of having that vs. the extra time it takes to uncompress. Like I say, it's hard to say since my decision on this would be based on the actual file sizes, etc.

As a general rule, if you've already invested the time uncompressing, and you can fit the uncompressed version on discs in a way that works for you, burn the uncompressed files to disc and trash the zip file. Does any of this make address what you are getting at in your question?
