I must recognize it looks very nice. They are adding features like crazy.
Apple certainly knows how to make things look good (on their website, at least).

On the bright side, hopefully this will put more pressure (the good kind) on MOTU, so they fix what is broken and give us a STELLAR DP 6 or 7 soon. I mean, they must compete with all these whistles and blows, right?

I'm just concerned about Snow Leopard... will that give us a whole new set of issues?

Looks like they are mostly just trying to match some of DPs already existing features - audio quantize, soundbite and sequence tempo commands, etc. When Logic 8 came out with all that stuff bundled at $500 was a much bigger deal (at least IMO). This to me merely seems to be Logic trying to catch up with the competition. Good for those already on Logic, but I'm not that impressed...

You get three guesses-- and the first two don't count!! (I suppose that makes it five guesses?)

With anything new-- no. Let me put that another way: with almost everything new in the way of hardware and software there are concerns. Some initial concerns may even be for naught as honest improvements become more apparent.

Snow Leopard will be an interesting cookie until all apps and plugins get fully up to speed. I'm just guessing, but we will likely see some apps take full advantage of 10.6's 64-bit kernel while other apps and plugins will have to run in some sort of 32-bit emulation mode. Which apps and plugins will get there and "when" is among my list of concerns and it makes me hesitant to move too quickly on upgrading before knowing all the facts.

So, Logic 9-- hmm. Watching Logic's development has been, if nothing else, an important landmark in the way Apple feels a DAW should work with its own OS. I almost hate to say it, but this release once again raises the question of what's happening with DP.

Even if I'm too lazy to learn a new application when I'm already really efficient with DP, I envy that stability thingy...

The Flex Tool and Audio Quantize look awesome! If it is as simple as they make it look, this is exactly what how I envisioned DP working, but I'm afraid Audio Quantize is a classic forgotten technology in DP. I love DPs innovations, but they need to support and update them to improve their functionality. Apple may be "catching up," but it looks like they've done it right. Of course the major drawback is you still have to use Illogic to get to them. When they get the UI right, I'll be more impressed.

Exactly.
Now, would it be fair to point out that they will ALWAYS have an edge for being part of the same company? Would it be safe to suspect Logic's developers have access to information on OS that other developers will never have, or will obtain "too late", thus giving them a big advantage in terms of solidity and stability?

I hate to admit this, but when I took a look to the link, I was OF COURSE biased an prepared to dismiss it. But, to my surprise, I felt a pinch of jealousy (a small one, though ). I don't know if it's their excellent marketing skills playing tricks on my mind, or if they are really creating a very good DAW.
I can't wait to see what MOTU's response to Logic will be. They don't have the big deep pockets, but they sure have the brains. Come one MOTU! I want to be able to dismiss Logic again comfortably

I agree. I have been working with the comparable features in ProTools 8 and it is really delightful.

Flex tool looks amazing, as does audio quantize. Audio quantize in DP is not usable for me. To never have to cut and add crossfades to grouped

tracks is a huge time saver.

I also feel that Logics GUI isn't great for workflow. That's still my favorite feature with DP.

Logic 9! Fantastic! Modern music is saved!

Software has reached such an elevated, sophisticated, inexpensive, accessible, bewilderingly powerful and ubiquitous state that you would think that world of music would be brimming over with adventurous music that the technology is empowering.

Not so much.

Most of us are just waiting for September 9th.

Same here. I just wish MOTU would repair DP6 so that all of it's supposed features work properly. That would be
a huge step forward.
