I went away from home for a week and switched off the main power supply to my apartment before leaving. Admittedly I did not flip the switch of the 828 mkii before that so the unit was on when I switched off the power of my apartment.

The unit would not "boot up" when i tried a week after that. It just freezes after the panel starts showing "828mkii" and "cuemix dsp".

So it was miraculous when 2 days after that, after numerous amount of turning the unit on and off in attempts to revive it, my 82mkii suddenly came back to life.

Now I dare now turn it off. Not until at least tmr when the unit is totally warmed up. This is actually my 2nd 828 (the first one was sent back shortly after purchasing because of a hardware problem). These MOTU devices can really stop working quite easily it seems.

Theoretically, turning off the mains to you whole apartment shouldn't be any different than turning off the main power on your 828. As I recall the switch is hard switch, as opposed to a soft on like on the fronts of most computer towers - PC and MAC - or laptops. It is possible though, that the sudden current of turning your apartment mains back on - and thus turning on numerous other electrical devices simultaneously - sent a surge through everything. Could have caused the 828 to go haywire.

I have noticed that when doing mobile gigs my 896s will cycle on, but go no farther than the "blinking-christmas tree" display if the building has particularly different voltage variation than where they were previously living. A voltage regulator/power conditioner can help with this.

The behavior that you described preceeded the failure of my 828mkII. I would have to power it up two or three times before it would get all the way through it's POST to display the mixer on the LED panel. After about a month of that, it has finally died. The main outputs are gone. 828mkII, R.I.P.

How long have you purchased the device before it died?? Mine is dying for sure (just take a look at my other post).

Try taking the unit out of the rack and I think there's a 110/220V switch on the side of the unit near the rear? Switch that back and forth a few times and then leave in the correct position for your location and see if that helps. It helped with my 24 I/O.
